YFC
Club
Type: Open club (members aged 13 - 26) The Cobtree Young Farmers is a mixed group of boys and girls are aged between 10 and 23. None of them are from farming backgrounds but all have one thing in common: their interest in animals.
Every Saturday throughout the year, Young Farmers begin the day with general husbandry of cattle, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks, geese, donkeys and even rats! After lunch, activities, outings or events are arranged either for the whole group or to suit particular membership age groups.
Cobtree Young Farmers Club is one of 30 clubs that make up the Kent Federation of Young Farmers Clubs and throughout the year many opportunities arise for members to participate in activities both competitive and social.
The main event in the Cobtree Young Farmers calendar is the Kent County Show, where members show the Museum livestock over the three day event at Detling Show ground, invariably returning with an impressive collection of rosettes and certificates.
Subscription for each member is £2.50 per month (£30 p.a), and this amount covers all types of training, competition fees, insurance etc.
Further details of the Cobtree Young Farmers Club can be obtained direct from Sue Stymest at the Museum of Kent Life. The photos on this page have been kindly submitted by Amanda Clements. Here are some more photos of Cobtree YFC's biggest, cutest, and sometimes scariest animals!
