New Marquees Are A Hit With Kent Young Farmers!

This year’s show was improved with the use of the New Livestock Marquees which were kindly organised by the Kent County Agricultural Society (KCAS) with support from the Kent Show YFC Committee. The marquees allowed all those who wanted to enter, unlike in previous years where space has been a concern.

As ever there were been some impressive Display Boards on show which clubs displayed by the ring side. The theme this year was Young Farmers around the world and the produce that each country produces. Some of the clubs were very inventive with their displays including spinning globes highlighting the different Young Farmers Societies around the world.

The Marketing and Publicity stand were also very grateful for the improved space provided by KCAS which allowed them to have an additional marquee. The marquee screened our video from Kent Show 2006 which was based around the ‘Diary Theme’ from ‘Big Brother.’ This helped to attract many members of the public who commented on what an excellent show it was.

A new addition to the timetable this year was the Round Bale Pushing Competition hosted in the Mercent Ring on Saturday Afternoon. Members of the public wondered why the bales were covered in black plastic. We explained that the bales had to be covered in Silage wrap so that when they were rolled at high speed they did not come apart. The public soon knew why this was done, some of the teams must have been rolling the bales at 10MPH! The competition was timed on how quick the bales could be rolled from one end of the ring to the other and overall was hailed a success. Other competitions included the Mock Stock Auction, Fancy Dress and It’s A Knockout.

There were many successes in the Young Farmers ring and overall entries were up, which was aided by the return of the Poultry Classes!

The weather was not as predictable as last year but kept us all on our toes.

As a committee we would like to say thank you to KCAS and all the organisations which helped to organise an excellent show. The Young Farmers area would not be here without the school and open clubs.

Also on behalf of Kent Young Farmers we would like to say thank you to our National President Lionel Hill for attending our Award Ceremony!
