Astor of Hever re-open as an Open Club
by Stephen Paine

Thursday, 01 September 2005

On Tuesday 30th August, Astor of Hever YFC held their first AGM in their new capacity as an open club. Seventeen members turned up at Rianos restaurant, Tonbridge road, to vote in a new club committee.

The various committee positions had already been established within a draft constitution, which had been drawn up by senior members of the school club shortly after the Kent County Show. This constitution was designed to enable smooth transition from "school" to "open" club status, whilst not excluding younger members from club planning.

The elections were quite intense, and the position of chairman was particularly contested - needing three rounds of voting to finally establish who had won the position!

However, after a long hour of nail-biting, the club had elected itself a new committee:

President: Nia Atkinson
Treasurer: Stephen Paine

Chairperson: Charlotte Kemp
Vice-Chairperson: Carl Vincent
Secretary: Zoe Collier

Kent Show: Hannah Rubbie-Todd
Publicity and Fundraising: Ollie Nunn
Events and Social: Tom Nunn

The new club committee have a challenging task ahead of them. Over the next week, they need to establish a new name and logo for the club, as well as find the funds required to get them throughout the year. They are all up for this challenge, though, and are raring to go!

The club is very grateful for all the support received so far, from Kent YFC, KCAS, and friends of the farm. Without the kindness and generosity of these people, the AGM wouldn't have gone so well.
