COBTREE'S
SHOW REPORT The
Kent County Show is considered by most members to be the main event on our calendars
and preparations go into over drive during the last few weeks leading up to the
show. Members are frantically washing, carding, clipping, perfecting their halter
training etc, from which a great team spirit evolves. To
be a great young farmers club your members need to work together as things will
and do go wrong. Alarm clocks not going off and sparkling clean animals having
a call of nature just before entering the ring (Sh** being the operative word),
are just a few examples.
Our
successes reflected how well everyone pulled together this year. I personally
find showing sheep extremely difficult due to the intense preparation of washing,
carding and clipping, so when four of our young farmers were placed I was more
then impressed. Well done to Hector, Zanna, Sam and Laura. Sam
also deserves extra recognition for her outstanding performance in Market class.
Being placed first and then going on to become champion was exceptional for her
first experience of showing cattle. I'm sure she wasn't the only one with tears
in her eyes that day. Written

Berreen also showed great cattle skills in her home reared class and was placed
reserve champion. These are great achievements by both our young farmers and it
seems to have been a good year for beginners. Further
recognitions include Faith, Phil, Sarah, Amanda and Hannah. All these members
received either a second or first place, so well done to them. All these achievements
through the strong team effort we all saw this year, won us the 'Open Club Trophy'
for yet another year. Congratulations Cobtree Young Farmers. That's
another Kent show over, but yet already we are planning and all looking forward
to the Kent County Show 2007.
