Kent Show Report 2006: Sheep!!! Thursday
13th July: Today wasn't about showing, but about putting the Museum stand
together. The nicely painted walls and decking (a new idea) to make a pretty background
and working area. The sheep were then ready to turn-up! They looked unusually
white and clean and yet people still managed to find work to be done. A short
break for tea and then back to work until really late, some people were even up
'til 10ish!!!! Friday
14th July: 'Let the shows begin!!!!!' This meant the morning consisted
of pairing up the lambs ready for Butchers' pairs. Some pairs were excellent and
managed to achieve Very Highly commended! And all those who didn't come anywhere
were up against very high competition (well that's my excuse.) Saturday
15th July: There's nothing like hard work! Since there were no sheep shows
today, it gave us all an opportunity to get our lambs to top notch before tomorrow.
Loads of washing, blow dries, and carding was going on. The sheep were thoroughly
pampered, which is more than I can say for us hairdressers. Tomorrow will show
just how hard we worked. Sunday
16th July: It's the big day, turn-out ARGGHHH!!!!!!! Early morning and
loads of finishing touches, e.g. cutting that tuft that grew overnight and cleaning
the last bit of wax out of the lambs' ears. And not only were the lambs looking
fantastic, so were the people! (it made a pleasant change, joke)!!! Then it began,
people started going into the ring. The nerves were getting everyone, but actually
there was nothing to be afraid of. Everyone did really well, one person even got
into the championships!!!!!!!!! Once
the day was out, it was time for everybody to go home. The sheep and cows got
put on the lorry and everybody got the first good night's sleep in 4 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
