Operation Christmas Child
by Donna Hawkes

6th February, 2007

Brockhill YFC were proud to support 'Operation Christmas Child' - run through Smaritians Purse UK, a chairty that bring hope to children in desperate situations all around the world.

Young members helping to wrap 295 shoe boxes - that is no mean feat!

Ashford Depot representative, Charles Pickford was invited to the club to talk about his work, he showed members a moving DVD which included footage of children who lived in dustbins burrowed into the ground, 'we couldn't believe our eyes' said Club Chairperson, Kerry Wood 'we decided we wanted to fill as many shoe boxes as we could and we managed a grand total of 295'. A small number of members helped Miss Young and Miss Hawkes deliver the boxes
to the Ashford Depot and they spent the evening helping out. 'We unloaded hundreds and hundreds of boxes from vans, taped up shoe boxes ready to be shipped out and helped organise stock' continued Kerry, 'it is great actually doing something hands on to help - it feels much better then just giving a cheque'.

Members at the Ashford Depot proudly delivering their contribution.

Brockhill YFC will be supporting Operation Christmas Child again this year and will be holding a Book Sale to raise funds to purchase items to go in the shoeboxes at their annual Lambing Day on April 1st.
